The Scandinavian Music Festival 2024

Lisa Hansen performs as soloist with New York Scandia Symphony in their 2024 Scandinavian Music Festival!

The Scandinavian Music Festival 2024 in Fort Tryon Park, now in its 20th season, is a unique series of three outdoor summer concerts performed by musicians of the Scandia Symphony and guest artists on Sundays in June. The concerts take place in a scenic and attractive venue, on Billings Lawn, below the Heather Gardens and with spectacular views of Hudson River. Musicians of the Scandia Symphony will present the musical treasures and cultural heritage of Scandinavia to the audiences.

June 16th, 2024, 2 PM: “CONCERTO PROGRAM” features three solo concertos, respectively, from the Baroque era, the Romantic era and the contemporary era:
Johan Helmich Roman: Flute Concerto – Lisa Hansen, Flute

Jean Sibelius: Suite for Violin and Strings – Mayuki Fukuhara, Violin

Frank Foerster: Suite of Scandinavian Folk Melodies for Viola and Strings – Frank Foerster, Viola

Dorrit Matson: Conductor


Dylan Hamme performs the Ligeti Violin Concerto at Alice Tully Hall!

April 8 at 7:30 PM

Dylan Hamme performs as soloist as winner of The Juilliard School’s 2024 Ligeti Violin Concerto competition. The concert will be held on Monday, April 8 at 7:30pm at Alice Tully Hall with AXIOM conducted by Jeffrey Milarsky. This concert will also be livestreamed. New York Scandia Symphony

“Under Northern Lights” Concerts

I New York Scandia Symphony has served the communities of New York City with innovative and creative programs of Scandinavian music for the past 35 years, sharing the musical treasures and cultural heritage of Scandinavia with American audiences.

Music Director and Conductor Dorrit Matson will lead the orchestra in a program titled “Under Northern Lights”. The concert will feature 52 of New York City’s finest musicians performing some of the great masterworks of Northern Europe:

New York Scandia Symphony performs “Under Northern Lights”

Starr Theater, Alice Tully Hall Lincoln Center Broadway at 65th Street NYC Buy Tickets New York Scandia Symphony (Scandia) will present a program of seldom heard Scandinavian masterpieces, including Helios Overture and An Imaginary Journey to the Faroe Islands by Carl Nielsen, Concertino for two Horns and Orchestra by Friedrich Kuhlau, At the Castle Gate and Karelia Suite by Jean Sibelius and Swedish Rhapsody No. 1 – Midsommarvaka by Hugo Alfvén. This concert will be performed by 50 musicians, selected among the finest in New York City, soloists Peter Reit and Will de Vos and Scandia’s Music Director and Conductor, Dorrit Matson. Sharing our heritage and the music of Northern Europe during the 19th century and beyond, this concert is a collaborative project, presented together with AFSMK (American Friends of SMK/The National Gallery of Denmark) on occasion of the exhibition Beyond the Light: Identity and Place in Nineteenth-Century Danish Art, organized by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the J.
